Pseudonym of prolific US author Roxanne Longstreet Conrad (1962-2020), who also wrote as by Roxanne Conrad, Ian Hammell (a House Name), Julie Fortune and Roxanne Longstreet. She began to publish work of genre interest with Stormriders (1990) as Roxanne Longstreet, a contribution to the fantasy Role Playing Game-based Shared World Shadow World. Her best-known series is perhaps the Morganville Vampires sequence of Young Adult Vampire fantasies opening with Glass Houses (2006) and comprising 15 novels plus a number of short stories collected as Midnight Bites (coll 2016).

Of direct sf interest is Sacrifice Moon (2004) as by Julie Fortune, set in the universe of Stargate SG-1, which is also the subject of the nonfiction Stepping Through the Stargate: Science, Archaeology and the Military in Stargate (2004) with P N Elrod. The author's most sustained sf work was the collaborative Honors trio of Young Adult thrillers featuring Aliens: Honor Among Thieves (2018), Honor Bound (2019) and Honor Lost (2020), all three written with Ann Aguirre.

Caine was posthumously honoured with a 2021 Kate Wilhelm Solstice Award (see SFWA Grand Master Award). [DRL]
