Chiller Theatre Magazine

Entry updated 4 April 2017. Tagged: Publication.

Letter-size saddle-stapled Cinema Semiprozine printed on middle-grade paper. Published by Chiller Theatre, Incorporated. Editor: possibly Kevin Clement. 25 issues, 1994 to 2010; the publication schedule was erratic.

Like many others, this magazine began as an imitation of Famous Monsters of Filmland, albeit with a more mature slant. In this it succeeded admirably, though never achieving major success in terms of circulation. Considerable material of value appeared, with coverage of such films as Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), Fiend Without a Face (1958), One Million Years B.C. (1966) and The Time Machine (1960). Featured notables included Peter Cushing, Boris Karloff, Vincent Price, and the early Television horror host John Zacherley. The often spectacular covers were by Daniel Horne and others. While Chiller Theatre Magazine has been discontinued, the publishing company continues to hold an annual Convention every Halloween. For a time there was a companion magazine, Chiller Theatre Modeling Maniacs, dealing with monster and sf model hobby kits; this saw at least four issues, 2001-2002. [GSt/DRL]
