Clone Master, The

Entry updated 4 April 2017. Tagged: Film.

Made-for-tv film (1978). Mel Ferber Productions/Paramount Television for NBC-TV. Produced by John D F Black. Directed by Don Medford. Written by Black. Cast includes Ralph Bellamy, Art Hindle, Ed Lauter and John Van Dreelan. 100 minutes. Colour.

Research Scientist Dr Simon Shane (Hindle) and his mentor Dr Ezra Loutman (Bellamy) are hired, supposedly by the US government, to conduct advanced research on Cloning. Shane soon begins to correctly suspect that their employer is not a government agency but some shadowy organization that wants the cloning technology for its own purposes. When his suspicions become known, Loutman is kidnapped by thugs working for this unknown group, including Bender (Lauter), to force him to cooperate. Simon is actually much farther along with his work than anyone realizes, however, and has created twelve clones of himself brought to his own physical age. There are differences in personality, though each clone has roughly the same knowledge, and memories as Simon himself. Simon and his clones eventually rescue Loutman, then go on the run with the sinister organization in pursuit.

Yet another failed pilot for an sf series, The Clone Master is now little seen despite having had some series potential. [GSt]
