Cult Movies & Video

Entry updated 4 April 2017. Tagged: Publication.

Letter-size saddle-stapled Cinema magazine printed on cheap newsprint. Publisher: Wack "O" Publishing. Associate Editor: Jan Henderson. 41 issues, 1990 to 2004. Publication schedule was generally quarterly.

A Semiprozine which gained considerable bookshop distribution in the US during the 1990s, this was largely concerned with vintage films and personalities associated with Fantasy, sf and Horror films, plus some Television coverage. Featured works included the films of Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff, both covered several times, plus Vincent Price, Edward D Wood Jr and actresses who had gained minor cult status, such as Barbara Payton and Yvette Vickers. Also discussed were various films involving the Frankenstein Monster, Godzilla and King Kong. Covers ranged from sometimes below average artwork to photomontages. Cult Movies & Video seems to have ultimately succumbed to rising production costs and the growing availability of information on the Internet, leading it to suspend operations by the mid-2000s.
