(1977-    ) US author, based in Portland, Oregon. He is best known for a series of books, beginning with William Shakespeare's Star Wars: Verily, a New Hope (2013), which retell the stories of George Lucas's Star Wars films as plays purportedly written by Shakespeare in Elizabethan blank verse; all are subtitled "Inspired by the Work of George Lucas and William Shakespeare". While these are executed capably, if ineffervescently, the conceit quickly grows tiresome; the presumably unintended message is that, in comparison to the genius of Shakespeare, Lucas's plots and characters seem simplistic and shopworn.

Doescher has also subjected non-Star Wars works to the same treatment, for example Back to the Future (1985) in William Shakespeare's Get Thee Back to the Future (2019). [GW/DRL]
