(1961-    ) UK poet (see Poetry), screenwriter, librettist, playwright and author, variously active from the early 1980s; his detective novels, beginning with Nefertiti: The Book of the Dead (2006), are nonfantastic, as is the opera/oratorio Between Worlds (2015) by Tansy Davies (1973-    ), a meditation on 9/11 for which he wrote the libretto. Drake is of sf interest for The Farewell Glacier (coll of linked poems 2012 chap), whose individual units mark points on the author's trek through the Arctic, north of Norway, as he clocks the consequences of Climate Change on the far north; later poems portray a savagely transformed Near Future 2100 fully in the grip of the Anthropocene, when this world has been destroyed altogether.

Drake should not be confused with the singer-songwriter Nick Drake (1948-1974). [JC]
