Dreamwatch

Entry updated 4 April 2017. Tagged: Publication.

UK oversized Media Magazine printed on a mix of middle-quality and slick paper. Published first by Dreamwatch Publishing, then Titan Magazines 1983 to 2007. Editors included Anthony Clark, Gary Leigh, Brian J Robb and Paul Simpson. 150 issues; publication schedule was generally monthly.

The magazine began in July 1983 as Doctor Who Bulletin, a Fanzine devoted to the Television programme Doctor Who (1963-current). The original editor/publisher was Gary Leigh, who in 1989 rebranded it as a Semiprozine titled DreamWatch Bulletin. This was sold to Titan Magazines in 1994 and became Dreamwatch, a professional-quality magazine renumbered from #1 under the editorship of Anthony Clark, who expanded its coverage to genre films and television in general. Featured series included Babylon 5 (1993-1998), The X-Files (1993-2002), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) and the Buffy spinoff Angel (1999-2004). The Titan Dreamwatch had US distribution from the outset; additionally there was a separate US edition with an uncertain number of issues from around 2003. The print edition ceased with the January 2007 issue, and Dreamwatch became a Webzine titled Total Sci-Fi which continued into 2011; it then went on indefinite hiatus. [GSt/DRL]
