(1879-1917) UK-born US journalist – his family moved to America in 1894 and settled in California – and author of various series of adventures for boys, almost always featuring two or more chums. Goldfrap always wrote under Pseudonyms. His series – only some of sf interest – include the Ocean Wireless Boys; the Boy Aviator Series of Airplane Boys stories, of which one volume, The Boy Aviators in Africa; Or, An Aerial Ivory Trail (1910), is a Lost Race tale involving a dying civilization of winged humans; and the Dreadnought Boys – all three of the foregoing series as by Captain Wilbur Lawton; the Boy Scouts and the Motor Cycle Chums, both as by Lieut. Howard Payson; the Motor Rangers as by Marvin West; the Bungalow Boys as Dexter J Forrester; and the Border Boys as by Freemont B Deering. Goldfrap's work lay well within the expectations of his publisher and his readers. The three series with some sf interest are listed below. [JC]
