Secret 6, The

Entry updated 4 April 2017. Tagged: Publication.

Pulp Magazine. Four issues, October 1934 to April 1935, from Popular Publications. Editor: Rogers Terrill.

Written by prolific pulp author Robert J Hogan, The Secret 6 dealt with the adventures of King (no first name ever given) and his five associates, who fight crime after King has been framed for a murder. After breaking him out of Prison, the team strives to prove King's innocence while battling bizarre criminals including Mad Scientists. Among the threats they face are dogs enlarged to gigantic proportions (see Great and Small), reanimated dead men and other Monsters. The magazine did not prove popular, and soon ceased. Besides the lead "novel" featuring King, each issue was rounded out with short stories of a non-fantastic nature. In more recent years, the series has been reprinted in various formats (see Retro-Pulp) including an omnibus of all four novels as The Secret 6: The Complete Adventures (omni 2009). [GSt]
