(1985- ) US author much of whose work has been in collaboration with Amie Kaufman, her three Young Adult series comprising the bulk of her work. Her first series, which is solo, the Skylark sequence beginning with Skylark (2012), is set Equipoisally in a domed Dystopian Keep surrounded by a Ruined Earth with whose origins, in the deep past, the protagonist's own innately transgressive nature is entwined. The dome is fuelled by the Magic energies of children such as herself; her escape, her quest for the world's secrets while hunted by what seem to be Robots, and discovery of a haven within the world, take up the remainder of the series. Spooner's second series, the Starbound sequence with Amie Kaufman beginning with These Broken Stars (2013), is sf, as is her third, the Unearthed sequence, also with Kaufman, beginning with Unearthed (2018) (for both series see her co-author).
Spooner's first two solo novels, Hunted (2017) and Sherwood (2019), are fantasy; her third, The Other Side of the Sky (2020) with Amie Kaufman, is sf. [JC]
