Working name of US author Margaret Manson Barber Stone (1841-1913); her sf novel, One of "Berrian's" Novels (1890), is set in the distant Near Future world described by Edward Bellamy in Looking Backward (1888), and is presented as a tale told by Berrian, a novelist who is a character in that Utopia. The tale itself does not dispute Bellamy's restrictive views of the role of women, though they are permitted to reach positions of power; and focuses on the doomed attempt of those who still resist the new world to overthrow it.
