Supersonic Saucer

Entry updated 4 April 2017. Tagged: Film.

Film (1956). Gaumont British Picture Corporation/British Lion Film Corporation. Directed by Guy Fergusson. Written by Dallas Bower from a story by Frank Wells. Cast includes Fella Edmonds, Gillian Harrison, Tony Lyons and Marcia Monolescue. 50 minutes. Black and white.

A small, friendly Alien from Venus is found and "adopted" by a group of schoolchildren from an English countryside school. The alien is pursued by criminals who want to use its various powers, including Telepathy, to commit robberies, but finally escapes after helping capture the criminals. Transforming into an actual flying saucer, it departs for Venus at the conclusion.

This minor juvenile production was apparently sold directly to television in the US and is rarely seen. Despite speculations that Supersonic Saucer influenced Steven Spielberg's E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982), it seems unlikely that Spielberg ever saw it. [GSt]
