(1965-    ) US editor and author who began to publish work of genre interest with "Death and the Elephant" in Amaranth: Tales of the Supernatural (anth 1991) edited by Alayne Gelfand, most of his limited output being in collaboration with David Sandner, with whom he also collaborated on his first Anthology, The Treasury of the Fantastic: Romanticism to Early Twentieth Century Literature (anth 2001). His other anthologies include The Sword & Sorcery Anthology (anth 2012) with David G Hartwell and Invaders: 22 Tales from the Outer Limits of Literature (anth 2016), the latter being a strong collection of literary Fantastika. The New Voices of Fantasy (anth 2017) with Peter S Beagle assembles new stories by new or relatively new authors, some of whom have already become well-known.

Weisman is perhaps best known as the founder in 1995 and publisher of Tachyon Publications, which arguably began as a small press (see Small Presses and Limited Editions), but which soon expanded into general publishing, very successfully releasing commercially viable work by new authors as well as by several who were already well-established. The firm remains active. [JC]
