(1937-2021) US artist who studied at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California, and after working with architectural companies and in advertising – typically producing scenes of men and Machines – began to paint Genre SF covers for New York publishers, beginning with the 1977 Ace Books paperback of The Best from Fantasy and Science Fiction: A Special 25th Anniversary Anthology (anth 1974) edited by Edward L Ferman. Working in gouache and using both hand brush and airbrush, he become known for his spectacular depictions of high-tech machinery and gadgetry. He produced the cover for the first issue of Asimov's SF Adventure Magazine (Fall 1978), and many further paperback covers for Ace, Ballantine Books/Del Rey Books, Berkley, Fawcett, New American Library, and later Baen Books, continuing to be active with genre work until his retirement in the late 1990s.

This artist should not be confused with the Paul Alexander (legal name Paul Zink) who co-wrote three novels for the Bantam Books Dark Forces juvenile supernatural series, beginning with Magic Show (1983) with Laurie Bridges; nor with the UK Paul Alexander who wrote Red Dwarf Log No. 1996 (1995), a Tie to Red Dwarf.
