Clinton, George

Entry updated 26 October 2021. Tagged: Music, People.

(?1940-    ) US funk musician, famous for his two connected groups, Parliament and Funkadelic. Many of the musicians from these collectives played on albums released under Clinton's name as solo albums. Computer Games (1982) has been especially heavily sampled by subsequent hip-hop and funk acts (the track "Atomic Dog" in particular); and the title track of You Shouldn't-Nuf Bit Fish (1983) refers, in characteristically goofy-cool style, to nuclear war (the "fish" refers both to fishing and nuclear fission). More reminiscent of Parliament is T.A.P.O.A.F.O.M. (1996) (the title is an abbreviation for The Awesome Power of a Fully Operational Mothership) in which the giant Spaceship of funk flies again.
