(? - ) Irish journalist, publisher and author whose first novel, the Young-Adult Last Ones Left Alive (2019), envisions an Ireland at some point in the moderately distant Near Future, at a point where the planetary Disaster – a Zombie apocalypse probably due in particular to scientific research gone wrong, and to Climate Change and Ecological degradation in general – has created a near-Ruined Earth landscape. The protagonist treks through this world, dodging zombies, here known as Skrakes, in search of haven. Modestly emblematic figures both accompany and confront her. The sequel, Silent City (2023), is set in a Dublin under constant threat of Skrake incursions; the protagonist, now a member of an officially sanctioned warrior banshee cadre, finds that she has unwittingly joined a conspiracy to restore patriarchy to a shattered world (see Feminism; Women in SF).
