Lomon, Charles

Entry updated 17 October 2022. Tagged: Author.

(1852-1923) French playwright and author of Les Atlantes, aventures des temps légendaires (portions in feuilleton form 1904 La Nouvelle Revue; 1905; trans Brian Stableford as The Last Days of Atlantis 2015) with Pierre-Barthélmy Gheusi. The tale treats the matter of Atlantis essentially in terms of fantasy, under the influence of earlier works like H Rider Haggard's She (1886) and C Cutcliffe Hyne's The Lost Continent (1900) (see She); but does so with fluency. The male warrior who becomes erotically involved with the Queen of Atlantis prefigures Robert E Howard's Conan, though there is no evidence of a direct connection. [JC]
