Scieszka, Jon

Entry updated 12 September 2022. Tagged: Author.

(1954-    ) US author best known for his numerous picture books for younger children, often reworkings of fantasy and folk tale materials [not given in the Checklist below]. He is of sf interest primarily for two series, the Time Warp Trio tales for younger readers, beginning with Knights of the Kitchen Table (1991 chap), in which a mysterious Book serves as a Time Machine, bringing the three young protagonists to a variety of worlds, some entirely imaginary, some set in a Land of Fable [see The Encyclopedia of Fantasy under links below], some placed in historical times. At least one, 2095 (1995 chap), is set in the future. In the Spaceheadz sequence, beginning with SPHDZ Book #1 (Spaceheadz) (2010) with Francesco Sedita, which is designed for slightly older readers, a fifth grade boy teams up with Alien schoolchildren in disguise to save Earth from demolition. A singleton, Baloney (Henry P) (2005 chap), also features a young Alien, who has comic adventures. [JC]
