(?   -    ) UK author whose moderately distant Near Future Young Adult Light the Abyss sequence, beginning with The Light at the Bottom of the World (2019), is set in a 2099 London completely immersed after an asteroid strike by the rising oceans (see Climate Change; Disaster; Under the Sea). The young protagonist takes advantage of the London Submersible Marathon to search for her missing father through the subaqueous terrors and joys of the uncannily preserved underwater City, while coping with a quasi-Dystopian government obsessively attempting to use sound-bites to control its citizens. The sequel, Journey to the Heart of the Abyss (2021), begins with the rescue of her father from an illegal Prison, then partially shifts focus to a Genetically Engineered caste known as Homo amphibious, bred to live under water as slaves (see Slavery), but at the point of revolt.
