(1962-    ) US author who also writes for younger children as by Easton Royce and who has mostly concentrated on work for Young Adult markets, sometimes entering sf territory, though his first novel, The Shadow Club (1988) is nonfantastic, like several of its successors. Of sf interest are three series. The Star Shards sequence begins with Scorpion Shards (1995), featuring youngsters with special abilities including Psi Powers. The Unwind Dystology, set in an Alternate History where interference with human life extends from conception until the age of thirteen, at which point, as puberty begins, parents can "unwind" unwanted offspring. As the series progresses, America turns into a full-blown Dystopia, seemingly under the control of badly-done-to teenagers. The Accelerati sequence, beginning with Tesla's Attic (2014) with Eric Elfman, begins in an attic which Nikola Tesla has mathematically shaped into a vortex destined long after his death to recruit the young protagonists into his posthumous operations.
