(1915-2006) US author in whose The Green Man from Space (1955) the titular man from Mars (see Little Green Men) is discovered on Earth looking for new species of algae, and is taken back home by a test pilot in an experimental Spaceship. The Martians of this story are humanoid but have evolved a symbiotic relationship with the algae that cover their skin and provide them with the oxygen the Martian atmosphere has lost. Zarem also wrote Superjet: A Spy-Ring Thriller (1954) with Ray Cantwell, which is not sf; and nonfiction on aeronautical subjects. [JC/LW]
