(1955-    ) Hungarian-descended US author, almost exclusively of Fantasy, notably the long Vlad Taltos series and the swashbuckling Alexandre Dumas-like Khaavren Romances set earlier in the same universe. He is mentioned here chiefly for Cowboy Feng's Space Bar and Grille (1990), an intermittently comic spoof about a saloon which dodges atomic Holocausts by leaping through time and space to other planets, where a mysterious enemy awaits.

Some of Brust's novels, like The Sun, the Moon, and the Stars (1987), are more Fabulation than fantasy. Freedom and Necessity (1997) with Emma Bull is a political adventure, with echoes of Alexandre Dumas and intimations of fantasy, set in mid-nineteenth-century Britain as the Chartist Movement began to exercise a real-life influence. For details on the Incrementalists sequence beginning with The Incrementalists (2013) with Skyler White, see the entry for the latter. [JC]
