(1952- ) US author who has specialized in Technothrillers hovering at the edge of the Near Future; they include Team Yankee: A Novel of World War III (1987) which – as a Sequel by Another Hand to Sir John Hackett's Third World War novels of the early 1980s – is of interest for the desolateness of its vision of a future dominated by Future War; Sword Point (1988); Bright Star (1990); Trial by Fire (1992) and Dead Hand (2001), this last, which features an asteroid strike and a doomsday weapon in the hands of a rightwing nationalist group, being somewhat more adventurous than his norm.
