(1960-    ) Welsh-born author in Australia who began to publish work of genre interest with "The Moment" in Thyme Fiction 4 (anth 1990) edited by Peter McNamara, but who has been in Australia for most of his life, where he has written novels exclusively to date in collaboration with Sean Williams, beginning with the first volume of the apparently aborted Cogal sequence, The Unknown Soldier (1995) with Sean Williams, and then concentrating on four further series: the Evergence trilogy beginning with Evergence: The Prodigal Sun (1999) with Sean Williams, a pleasantly nostalgic Space Opera with much old-fashioned gear and a failing galactic empire to support or not; the Orphans trilogy beginning with Echoes of Earth (2002) with Sean Williams, in which First Contact with a complex Alien civilization severely shakes the triumphalist course of human history; a Star Wars: New Jedi Order trilogy [see Checklist]; and Geodesica, beginning with Geodesica: Ascent (2005) with Sean Williams, in which humans revolt against Posthumans who control Faster Than Light technology.
