Enright, D J
Entry updated 2 June 2026. Tagged: Author.
(1920-2002) UK poet, academic, critic and author. Most of his work has no fantastic content, though Heaven Knows Where (1957) Satirizes with a fairly soft brush the attempts of some British academics to construct a Utopia in an Island venue. Of more direct interest is the Atlantis series of Young Adult novels – The Joke Shop (1976), Wild Ghost Chase (1978) and Beyond Land's End (1979) – whose last volume focuses on the discovery of Atlantis Under the Sea not far west of Cornwall, where its ravaged instability threatens the whole of Britain if earthquakes continue to sunder it.
Enright was given an OBE in 1991. [JC]
