Gadallah, Leslie

Entry updated 27 November 2023. Tagged: Author.

(1939-    ) Canadian chemist, technical editor and author best known for her Empire of Kaz sequence – starting with Cat's Pawn (1987) – in which a human protagonist becomes involved with the eponymous Cat-like Alien Orioni, themselves involved in a desperate war against the invading Kazi, who dominate much of the Galaxy by the end of the second volume, Cat's Gambit (1990), which ends on an unusual downbeat. In the long-delayed third book, Cat's Game (2018), Scientists develop a Weapon to defeat the renewed Kazi offensive, although there are still political obstacles to be overcome. The Loremasters (1988; vt The Legend of Sarah 2014 ebook), a singleton, less impressively pitches a civilized enclave which inhabits a Keep against a horde of barbarians on an energy-starved future Earth. Gadallah also published half a dozen short stories from 1989 to 1996, most appearing in the Canadian magazine On Spec. [JC]
