(1840-1907) US editor – he was co-founder of The Nation, and served as its literary editor from 1865 to 1906 – and author of The New Gulliver (1898), a sequel to Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels (1726; rev 1735), in which the Houyhnhnms are revisited, and Evolution discussed. Garrison was a popularizer of the works of Charles Darwin. [JC]
