(1951-2022) US mathematician, engineer and computer programmer, long active in Fandom, where she worked on many Conventions including the 1989 Worldcon. Her one sf novel is Quantum Gate (1996), whose titular device provides the Ecologically devastated Earth of 2057 with access to a Parallel World rich in mineral resources, in particular iridium oxide. UN soldiers whose ostensible mission is to defend the mining operation against indigenous, hostile Alien "Bugs" are faced with numerous discrepancies between their briefing, their own Perceptions, and the actual nature of the destination planet, whose water-starved, toxic and uninhabitable semblance may be a Virtual Reality artefact imposed by their protective suits; complications build steadily towards a kind of Slingshot Ending. The novel is a Tie to the Videogame Quantum Gate (1993) created by Greg Roach for Hyperbole Studios, also described as an interactive movie (see Full Motion Video). [DRL]
