(1936-2026) US actor, screenwriter and author, in the first capacity primarily known for his role as Ensign Chekov in the original 1960s Star Trek Television series plus many ensuing films beginning with Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979). His sf novel, Buck Alice and the Actor-Robot (1988), perhaps rather confusedly replicates the gonzo surrealism of an author like Kurt Vonnegut in its depiction of a Ruined Earth after its devastation by Aliens and populated solely by demented figures out of Earth's past: an actor convinced he is the Robot he once played on television; presidential aspirants; etc. Chekov's Enterprise: A Personal Journal of the Making of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1980) is nonfiction.
