(1956-    ) US editor and author, born Teresa Nielsen; she legally changed her name in 1979 when she married Patrick Nielsen Hayden. She was managing editor in charge of the production department at Tor Books from 1988-1990 and has subsequently worked there as a consulting editor, acquiring and/or editing many new sf titles. With her husband, she has been active in Fandom, producing the Fanzine Izzard from 1982 to 1987. Making Book (coll 1994) assembles a range of cogent essays, some highly personal and others describing the editor/writer relationship in the modern sf world; its successor Making Conversation (coll 2016) ranges still more widely and includes many shorter pieces posted on line, in particular at Making Light, the Nielsen Haydens' online discussion forum which she founded.
