(1967-    ) US author, who also writes as by Steven Harper, and who began publishing work of genre interest with "Hoard" in Sword and Sorcerers IX (anth 1992) edited by Marion Zimmer Bradley. He is noted in particular for two series: the In the Company of Mind sequence comprising In the Company of Mind (1998) and Corporate Mentality (1999), whose young protagonist, in a universe dominated by Nanoware, discovers within his own augmented body a governing AI, with whom he must come to terms; the Silent Empire Young Adult sequence as by Steven Harper, beginning with Dreamer (2001) and ending with Offspring (2004). Identity (2003), whose young protagonist, sold as a slave, is returned to the consensual Hive-Mind-like entity or location known as the Dream when it is discovered that he is a Telepath capable of knitting farflung locations together; and the Clockwork Empire sequence, beginning with The Doomsday Vault (2011), set in a not unexpected Steampunk Alternate History Victorian England: Robots, massively complicated forms of Transportation, and clockwork Zombies fill the scene. Most of Piziks's remaining work has been Ties, including one for the Star Trek universe, Star Trek Voyager: The Nanotech War (2002) and one for the Battlestar Galactica series, Battlestar Galactica: Unity (2007) as by Steven Harper.
