(1934-2021) Canadian artist, poet and author, in Denmark since 1962, author of much non-genre poetry, her first volume being Asylum Poems (coll 1958); she won the Governor-General's Medal for Poetry for The Word for Sand (coll 1959). Her sf, which is much more recent, comprises the Moonfall sequence – Moonfall (1991), The Child of Atwar (1993) and The Taming (1996) – which vividly explores a Ruined Earth environment through the experiences of twins who share the same body. A later novel, The Flourish (2004), is nonfantastic crime fiction. [JC]
