Entry updated 12 September 2022. Tagged: Author, Film.

(1952-    ) US screenwriter, playwright and author, very much best known for scripting Disney films like Beauty and the Beast (1991) directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise, The Lion King (1994) directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, Maleficent (2014) directed by Robert Stromberg, and others. After some theatrical experience, her first novel, which is of sf interest, was the Young Adult Star Wind (1986), whose young protagonist, returning home from summer vacation, finds her friends under the thrall of a young man who calls himself WT-3. He is in fact an Alien, and seems to be channelling the mental processes of his human victims back to his home planet (see Parasitism and Symbiosis), using a Basilisk fame (see Games and Sports) to control his victims. In the end he is defeated with the help of the protagonist's good kitty. [JC]
