Young, Louisa

Entry updated 10 April 2023. Tagged: Author.

(1960-    ) UK author, who has written as by Zizou Corder with her daughter Isabel Adamakoh Young; partner from 2016 of Michel Faber. Most of her fiction has been nonfantastic, though the Lionboy sequence for relatively young readers, beginning with Lionboy (2003) with Isabel Adamakoh Young as by Zizou Corder, is of some sf interest. The tale is Equipoisally set partially in a Near Future London, where the young protagonist's Scientist parents are researching a cure for asthma, but are abducted to Africa. Charlie, who has the gift of tongues with Cats, traces them there; after adventures, the cast (including lions) finds itself trapped on a mysterious Caribbean Island, where the Corporacy, a Secret Master cabal, must be thwarted in its plans to rule the world. The young protagonist Lee Raven, Boy Thief (2008) as by Zizou Corder, must deal with the consequences of his theft of a Magic book; Halo (2010), again as Zizou Corder, is a fantasy set in ancient Greece and featuring centaurs (see Supernatural Creatures).

Of Young's adult novels, all solo, Twelve Months and a Day (2022) is a ghost story. [JC]
