(1970- ) US author who also writes romance fiction as by Ava Gray; her romance sf sequence – the Sirantha Jax books including Grimspace (2008), Wanderlust (2008), Doubleblind (2009), Killbox (2010) and Aftermath (2011) – features a tough but emotionally vulnerable female protagonist in various Space Opera settings. The Corine Solomon sequence beginning with Blue Diablo (2009) is Urban Fantasy [see The Encyclopedia of Fantasy under links below], and the Addison Foster sequence, beginning with Skin Game (2009), all as by Ava Gray, is paranormal romance; the Razorland trilogy starting with Enclave (2011) and Outpost (2012) is set in a Ruined Earth version of New York, with humans restricted to Underground Keeps, though the Young Adult-oriented protagonists fight back against Mutants and other kinds beyond the walls; the Apparatur Inferum sequence, beginning with Bronze Gods (2013), is noirish Steampunk set in Hy Brasil; the Dred Chronicles, beginning with Perdition (2013), is sf set initially in a Space Habitat containing within it several competing factions of doomed criminals (see Crime and Punishment); the Honors series, co-written with Rachel Caine, are Young Adult sf thrillers featuring Aliens.
