(1975-    ) US author and firearms instructor, formerly an accountant and a gun shop owner, who began to publish fiction of genre interest with Monster Hunter International (2007). In this unrelentingly violent Urban Fantasy [see The Encyclopedia of Fantasy under links below], both the US authorities and the titular independent organization (to which the protagonist is recruited) deploy considerable firepower against infestations of Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies and other Supernatural Creatures; the Weapons are described with expertise and relish in what might be termed Fan Service for gun enthusiasts. Monster Hunter International continued as a series, with Monster Hunter Vendetta (2010) and further sequel volumes published by Baen Books. The Dead Six sequence, written with Mike Kupari and opening with Dead Six (2011), initially reads as Military SF in a Near Future setting – featuring a counter-terrorism operation in an imaginary Persian Gulf state – but also edges into the supernatural, with much battling against Monsters. A further series, the Grimnoir Chronicles beginning with Hard Magic (2011), is set in an alternate-world 1930s whose Jonbar Point of divergence from familiar history is the mid-nineteenth century emergence of magical talents which by the time of the first novel are now possessed by roughly 1% of humanity.

Correia has also written Ties to the Steampunk Wargame Warmachine [see Checklist below] and to various Shared World enterprises such as David A Drake's Hammer's Slammers. A first collection of the author's short fiction is Target Rich Environment: Volume 1 (coll 2018). He is valued by his considerable readership for fast-moving (if undemanding) action-adventure in the Pulp mode. [DRL]
