(1944-2025) US author who began to publish genre fiction with The Princess of Flames (1986), which like most of her books is Fantasy; she also wrote one novel as by Roberta Cray. Of direct sf interest is StarBridge #7: Voices of Chaos (1998) with A C Crispin, the final volume in the enjoyable StarBridge sequence of Young Adult sf adventures in Space Opera mode that was begun by Crispin solo in 1989. The young female protagonist, newly graduated from StarBridge Academy, must deal with diplomatic tangles and crises involving a newly discovered world of feline Aliens (see Cats) who wish to join the interstellar Cooperative League of Systems but seem to have a sinister secret. Emerson also collaborated with Mercedes Lackey [see Checklist below].
The novelization Beauty and the Beast: Masques (1990), a tie to the Television series Beauty and the Beast (1987-1990), takes its title and part of its plot from episode 5 of season one but also incorporates two season-two episode storylines. [DRL]
